Abstract

The chromosome findings in CML are primarily related to the absence or presence of the Ph1, since it contributes such an important index regarding the prognosis and course of the disease. Ph1-negative CML is associated with a much shorter survival and poorer response to therapy than the Ph1-positive entity. Chromosome changes, in addition to the Ph1, are seen in a small, but significant, percentage of patients with Ph1-positive CML consisting most often of an extra Ph1, +8, +19 and other karyotypic changes. The type of Ph1-translocation does not appear to affect the course of the disease.
