Abstract
Somatic chromosome counts are presented for four previously uncounted species of Psophocarpus (Leguminosae: Papilionoideae) from material collected in the Republic of Zaire and Ghana. The basic chromosome number is 2x = 2n = 18 for the species Psophocarpus grandiflorus, P. lancifolius, P. lecomtei, and P. palustris, and these counts are consistent with previously published counts for P. scandens and the cultivated winged bean, P. tetragonolobus.
