Abstract

Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma is one of four malignant kidney tumor subtypes. Due to its morphological variance in clinical pathological routine diagnostics, this subtype can cause certain difficulties. The tumor can be mistaken for more aggressive or benign tumors. In both cases the consequences of misdiagnosis regarding treatment decisions can be serious. Due to the morphological variance of the tumor, it has not yet been possible to develop agenerally accepted, prognostically convincing graduation scheme. The aim is to improve the quality of diagnostics and estimation of prognosis for this subtype of tumor in order to optimize patient care.
