Abstract

p JP A 70-day-old girl was transferred to our center with intractable diarrhea, which started on the 20th day of life and did not respond to various formulas. The physical examination was normal, except for her body weight, which was below the 3rd percentile (3200 g). Stool investigations showed malabsorptive diarrhea, with volume ranging between 200 and 250 mL kg 1 day , which was not reduced with protein-, fat-, or carbohydrate-free formulas, suggesting generalized malabsorption. According to a diagnostic algorithm for the evaluation of an infant with conge nital intractable diarrhea, we performed chromogranin-A staining of intestinal and colon biopsies to confirm enteric anendocrinosis (1).
