Abstract
At the present t ime ruby single crystals constitute the most widely employed active material in quantum oscillators and amplifiers. Such important parameters as the frequency of oscillation, the threshold power, the efficiency, etc. are determined to a considerable extent by the concentration of the active impurity (ions of trivalent chromium) and its distribution over the volume of the single crystal. With a view to providing more satisfactory single crystals and to optimizing their operating conditions, it is most important to know how the chromium
