Abstract
Developments of liquid gellable binders incorporating chromium compounds which are suitable as binders for various refractory grains are reported in this paper. The results are presented under two headings. 1. (1) The formation of chromia-magnesia gels from chromium(III) acetate solutions with magnesia suspensions and the use of chromium(III) acetate and zirconium(IV) acetate with magnesia suspension to bind basic refractory grain or alumina grain. 2. (2) The preparation, gelation and use of a chromium double alkoxide to bind refractory grain.
