Abstract

The extreme differences in the distillation temperatures of petroleum products are responsible for the existence of several standard methods for determining the distillation curves. In this paper, the feasibility was demonstrated of determining these curves on various petroleum products by chromatographic distillation, using the same procedure and the same apparatus in all cases. Mixtures were separated in a capillary column or in a column packed with an inert support according to the component vapor pressures at the column exit temperature rather than the component boiling points. Conversion to boiling points was performed by means of a calibration curve. Calibration curves were derived for gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel, lube oil, and other cuts.
