Abstract
Plasma motilin immunoreactivity was analysed by gel permeation chromatography (G50, superfine) in patients with ulcerative colitis, chronic renal failure, patients undergoing small intestinal resection and also controls. Two antibodies of different regional specificity were used. All the patient groups studied had elevated motilin levels and this hypermotilinaemia was found to be due to the elevation of the two earlier described main immunoreactive motilin peaks ( K av 0.15 and 0.65). Two additional immunoreactive motilin peaks were also seen in the chronic renal failure patients.
