Abstract

In this essay, the author focuses on those christological traditions in the New Testament which are related to wisdom. He begins with a concise outline of a few relevant characteristics of early Jewish wisdom theology, then examines the role of Sophia within the Synoptic tradition as well as the significant expression of a “high Christology” in the oldest songs and confessions. In doing so, he demonstrates how the concept of wisdom in the New Testament took shape based on the image of Christ.
