Abstract

The eighth edition of Christopher's Textbook of Surgery , under the masterful editorship of Dr. Loyal Davis, has been modernized to meet the need of the medical student of today. The major objectives of this review have been the incorporation of new and important developments in the surgical sciences and the contraction of the text where possible without loss of content. To accomplish this, Dr. Davis sought 33 fewer contributors than in the former edition. There are now 49 authorities contributing and, of these, 20 have been newly selected. The general format of each section remains the same. Where applicable, there is a condensed review of embryology, histology, anatomy, and physiology as each pertains to clinical surgery. Thus, the student receives the most appropriate assistance in making the difficult transition from the basic science level to that of clinical medicine. Then follow descriptions of clinical course, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and complications.
