Abstract

The reason for• the suspicion and lack of interest is the widespread belief among Jews that the roots of anti-Semitism are to be found in Christian teachings and that, despite the evolution of Christian theology, very little has been done by those in authority to denounce the past and to radically reformulate the teachings of Christianity. In recent years, this Jewish perception has been reinforced by a rich and revealing literature, written by Christians, which corroborates and reinforces the view that Christianity has sown the seeds of anti-Semitism all the way to the Holocaust and beyond. Jews have also noted that the authors of such books and articles have almost invariably remained on, or been relegated to, the periphery of their respective churches, so that their conclusions could remain unheeded by the mainstream.
