Abstract

This paper deals with the Serbian version of the Novel about Alexander the Great by analyzing its titular character. One could assert that this character is typological and that it was formed by the mutual influence of minor characters, whose chief function is always directed towards achieving a more complex structure of the main character. The paper displays the development path of Alexander the Great's character in relation to diverse literary influences and the norms of the Serbian medieval literature. This is achieved by listing specific examples and following the development of Alexander's character, which emphasizes the chivalric code as one of the main constituents of the ruler's character. The aim of the paper is to prove and explicate the synthesis of Alexander the Great's character as a Christian ruler and holy warrior.
