Abstract

Theological and church discussions of the vital questions of race relations in South Africa have often been far removed from the actual situation in which people experience the consequences of state and church decisions, many of which deeply affect their lives. By contrast, a scientific approach to religions should study people’s actual situations, ideals, visions about the future, longings, cultures and world views, for without reliable information very little advance will be made in the field of human relationships, especially race relations because these are so often disturbed by stereotyped myths far removed from actual events.
