Abstract

Traditional western Christianity was a sex negative religion, regarding sex as necessary for procreation, but emphasizing celibacy as the ideal. This hostility to sex is not so much a part of Biblical Christianity as it is a major component of Christian theology. This was because Christianity appeared in a world dominated by the expansionist Roman Empire which had adopted and incorporated into its own intellectual tradition much of Greek philosophy and ethics.KeywordsSexual IntercourseIntellectual TraditionChristian TheologyGuilt FeelingFemale OrgasmThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
