Abstract
Chris Marshall, a groundbreaking cancer scientist and passionate advocate for the translation of basic scientific discovery to therapeutic application, died on August 8, 2015. Although he had been unwell for some time, the news has come as a sad blow to his many friends and colleagues in the cancer research community and beyond. Chris made enormous contributions to cancer research throughout his career, from the identification of some of the first human oncogenes in the early 1980s to the development of new cancer therapies in widespread clinical use today.
