Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper suggests importing quality tools (traditionally used in the manufacturing sector) to improve quality in the hospitality and tourism sector. Combining tools could be done differently, depending on the situation, problem characteristics, data availability, thinking process. Simple tools and techniques, such as 7 tools, and other tools currently employed and being used are recommended for use in the beginning, before attempts are made to introduce other new tools. Firm understanding of the purpose and the way to use the tools is the prerequisite for proper use of the tools. The understating should also include the limitations of tools. The tools should be integrated to tourism, the related hospitality business, and other domains to facilitate quality improvements, and should not be used in isolation for their own sake.
