Abstract
Chondroid lipoma is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm. Few cases have been described in the mouth. Clinically, it manifests as a solid, slow-growing swelling. Microscopically, this lesion resembles other pathologic conditions such as chondrolipoma and myoepithelioma. A 17-year-old male patient presented with an asymptomatic, well-defined sessile nodule, with a smooth surface and pink color, measuring approximately 1.5 cm, located on the lateral border of the tongue. The biopsy revealed microscopically well-circumscribed proliferation of mature adipocytes with a cellular chondroid component in a fibrous connective tissue stroma. The definitive diagnosis, based on cell morphology, was chondroid lipoma. The patient remained under clinical follow-up, and after 15 months there was no recurrence. Knowledge of mesenchymal lesions, mainly of cellular morphology, supports the definitive microscopy diagnosis. The correlation between clinical and histopathologic findings is important in the correct diagnosis to define the patient's treatment. Chondroid lipoma is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm.
