Abstract

We report a case of chondroblastic osteosarcoma (OC) with an aggressive clinical course in the mandible of a 41-year-old female patient who presented with a painful swelling on the left side of the mandible, with rapid evolution. Imaging examinations revealed a mixed lesion with ill-defined boundaries, promoting expansion, thinning, and perforation of the mandibular cortical. An incisional biopsy was performed and the histopathological report was inconclusive and inconsistent with the clinical features presented by the patient. A case review was requested, which concluded the diagnosis as chondroblastic osteosarcoma. The patient was referred to a head and neck surgery service, where resection of the tumor was performed with a safety margin. The patient had a recurrence of the neoplasm before starting chemotherapy two months after surgery. The patient underwent another marginal resection procedure and is recovering and awaiting authorization to start chemotherapy.
