Abstract
Previously, we reported the formation of giant mitochondria or chondriospheres 1n the myocardium of rats fed alcohol diet and 15% ethanol ad lib. For the present report, twenty-four C57BL male mice were randomly divided into three groups: Group I was fed sweetened semisynthetic liquid alcohol diet in which 36 per cent of the calories were derived from alcohol; Group II was maintained on a similar diet but alcohol was isocalorically substituted by sucrose, and Group III was fed regular Guilford mouse chow diet and distilled water ad 11b for 25 weeks.
