Abstract
It is understood that the Army Medical Board consisting of ColonelDallas Bache, Lieutenant-ColonelCharles Smartand MajorWalter Reed, convened by the Secretary of War to consider the question as to whether or not the Government should issue the so-called "cholera bands" for the use of United States troops in the field, has made its report to the Surgeon-General of the Army. It appears that the board investigated the literature of the subject, including the latest and best works on military and general hygiene, and the writings of the authorities on tropical diseases to determine the precise grounds on which the popular impression of the value of the abdominal band was based, for the board recognized the existence of a general impression among the members of the medical profession as well as among the laity, that the protection afforded to the abdomen by the wearing of a flannel band
