Abstract

An analysis is made of the various configurations employed for measuring the remanent and induced moment of a rock sample with a fluxgate magnetometer. The effects of shape factor and sample-fluxgate separation on the intensity and uniformity of the field are discussed. A four-probe configuration currently in use at Copenhagen is described which besides yielding an optimum field response, minimizes the effects of inhomogeneities in sample and also reduces the number of sets of readings.
