Abstract

SummaryA chlorpyrifos compost treatment (100 g a.i. m−3) was compared with a standard aldrin admixture (20 g a.i. m−3) for its effect on the growth of fifteen ornamental plants. No phytotoxic symptoms were noticed over a period of 18 months but plants exposed to chlorpyrifos were generally smaller than those in aldrin-treated compost. The efficacy of chlorpyrifos in the control of vine weevil is discussed and it is concluded that it could only be recommended in the absence of an alternative.
