Abstract

35 Cl, 37Cl and 79Br, 81Br Isotope shifts of 0·167 and 0·028 p.p.m. per Cl or Br isotope substitution, respectively, are clearly resolved in 86 MHz 195Pt n.m.r. spectra of PtIV halides, and, even in mixed complexes, the number of Cl– and Br– ligands can be counted from the multiplet splitting patterns; relaxation by chemical shift anisotropy appears to contribute little to the linewidths of the isotopomers of PtIICl42–.
