Abstract

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhea (GC) are common sexually transmitted infections in the United States with significant public health implications. Emerging trends of seasonal GC and the most current recommendations for screening, diagnosing, and treatment of CT and GC infections are presented. Multi-drug-resistant GC is an urgent public health threat: zoliflodacin, a new antibiotic under development, and the most recent provider guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reviewed. Health care providers, including nurse practitioners, can improve health outcomes related to these STIs by staying abreast of the most recent treatment recommendations.
