Abstract

This is the annual report to the French Ophthalmological Society for 1977. The text deals with surgical procedures around the eye and is written by three ophthalmologists, two general plastic surgeons, and one neurosurgeon. The illustrations are excellent, and the information is useful. Surgical procedures on ocular adnexa have, in western European countries, fallen to specialties other than ophthalmology by default. The ophthalmologists in these countries seem to be so preoccupied with microsurgical techniques of the anterior segment or retinal detachment operations that little time and effort is spent on surgical procedures of the lids, the orbit, or the lacrimal apparatus. In this way, the orbital procedures are usually referred to the neurosurgeon, procedures on the lids are referred to the plastic surgeon, and operations on the lacrimal system to the maxillofacial surgeon.
