Abstract
Chiral quark models are briefly sketched. Then the main question is addressed: Are chiral quark models consistent with the proton spin data? The proton spin fractions of the nonrelativistic quark model (NQM) are improved by chiral field theory. Such chiral models agree with the proton spin data only because the chiral quark‐Goldstone boson couplings are taken to be pure spinflip which is consistent with chiral perturbation theory. However, for constituent quarks non‐spinflip chiral transitions are not negligible, so that chiral quark models disagree with the proton spin data.
