Abstract

ABSTRACT The effect of chiral polymer network in polymer-stabilised blue phase liquid crystals (PS-BPLCs) is investigated. Compared with the conventional polymer network, the chiral polymer network can induce and stabilise the blue phase with less proportion of chiral dopant and monomer. Benefiting from twisting power and good compatibility of the chiral monomer, the driving capability of chiral PS-BPLC can be much improved by 65% compared with that of conventional PS-BPLCs. The hysteresis and residual birefringence issues also can be improved by introducing a chiral monomer with high stiffness and small molecule weight.
