Abstract

In this chapter, we focus on the basic physical effects, fabrication methods and applications of chiral metamaterials (CMs). Section 7.1 briefly introduces the research motivation and some key advantages of CMs. Section 7.2 covers the novel physical effects enabled by CMs, including the intrinsic and extrinsic chirality, giant chiroptical effect in CMs, circular conversion dichroism (CCD), induced chirality and chirality transfer, nonlinear chiroptical effect, trochoidal spin and dichroism (TS and TD). Section 7.3 reviews the design and fabrication methods for CMs, and Section 7.4 discusses their corresponding applications. Finally, a short summary and future perspective are conceived in Section 7.5.
