Abstract

Predictions for the interaction part of the symmetry energy obtained from different microscopic approaches are reviewed and discussed in comparison with updated constraints recently obtained at GSI. The discussion is then extended to the neutron skin thickness in 208Pb and its relation to the density derivative of the symmetry energy. We highlight the importance of giving proper consideration to theoretical uncertainties of microscopic predictions in order to guide phenomenological analyses.
