Abstract

Four outcrops of the “Calcaire inférieur Formation” (terminal Berriasian - basal Valanginian) in the vicinity of Safi (Morocco) have yielded a diverse fauna of echinoids, most of which have not previously been reported from Morocco. Two new species, Acropeltis atlantica and Magnosia densituberculata are described together with other forms which cannot be specifically identified or which show appreciable differences from the types. The originality of this fauna, more resembling European assemblages than other North African associations, is probably connected with the presence of a carbonate platform, an exceptional sedimentary environment on the Atlantic border of Morocco.
