Abstract
All logistical support which is unique to the PLAAF-including radar, aircraft and aircraft maintenance, missiles and missile maintenance, airfield construction, etc. The air force logistics department even operates some special rail lines to isolated installations, as well as boat units which supply fuel to air bases along the Yangtze river and coast. Most of the personnel are "civil service" or "nonmilitary" personnel who served in air force units prior to 1988. The airport construction company sells its services on the civilian market as well as working for the air force. However, the missile and space operations of the former astronautics ministry and the aircraft activities of the former aeronautics Ministry are still entirely separated, except at ministry of aerospace industry headquarters in Beijing. The Russian air force is pressing for expanded weapons exports because it must earn the hard currency necessary to import aircraft and parts. The same process would operate were the people's Republic of China to split up.
