Abstract

The introduction and development of acupuncture to Italy since the time of Marco Polo is discussed. Instead of opposition, acupuncture is gaining some recognition in Italy among academic and clinical circles. The modern society SIRAA is composed of medical faculty members who are engaged in acupuncture research. A second society SIA, founded by a group of practitioners, is also in existence.
