Abstract

A survey concerning the construction of a cross-century contingent of experts, conducted by the state's Ministry of Personnel Affairs, indicates that there are 1.278 million persons with academic records at or above the junior college level among China's high-grade talent resources, and that these persons comprise 87.63 percent of the total of such resources. This is six percentage points lower than in 1980. The average age of academicians in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is sixty-five, and 41.38 percent of the personnel in high-grade specialized technical positions are fifty-five years of age or older.
