Abstract
A capacidade do governo presidido por Ricardo Lagos de promover as reformas exigidas por seus eleitores é examinada contra o pano de fundo dos pesados obstáculos que o legado do regime autocrático de Pinochet coloca no seu caminho. Se falhar, argumenta-se, a coalizão de centro-esquerda que governa o Chile há urna década corre o risco de esgotar-se e o crescimento da direita poderá tornar-se irrefreável.
