Abstract

The scriptural and cultural sources of moral authority within Islam beginning with the Koran are described and their regulations about homosexual behavior summarized. The body of works of literature and media in the social sciences and humanities dealing with issues related to being both an observant Muslim and identifying as LGBT created between the late nineteenth and the early twenty-first centuries is then reviewed.
