Abstract

The study was carried out to investigate the involvement of rural children in entrepreneurial activities. It aimed at determining the level of children involvement and their attitudes towards entrepreneurial activities. Hence customarily, children are supposed to be under parental care, the attitudes of the parents in involving them to economic undertakings were also determined. The relationship between the level of children’s involvement in entrepreneurial activities and socio-economic characteristics of the children and their parents were also determined and established. One hundred and ten rural children between the ages of 6 and 12 and one hundred and ten parents were proportionately and randomly sampled from six rural communities using a pre-tested interview schedule. The study revealed that both children and their parents had favorable attitude towards the children’s involvement in entrepreneurial activities. The age ( r= 0.1100 ∗ ), educational level ( r= 0.2530 ∗ ), parental dependency ( r= 0.5117 ∗ ), and attitude of children towards entrepreneurial involvement were found to be major significant contributive factors to the children’s involvement coupled with their parents’ age ( r= 0.1338 ∗ ), income per month ( r= 0.3552 ∗ ), and number of children ( r= 0.4883 ∗ ) among others.
