Abstract
Although McAnarney et al (Pediatrics 61: 199, 1978) reported good obstetric outcome for teenage mothers and their babies, adolescent pregnancy is still a societal problem and, in particular, an adolescent health problem that we feel is underemphasized in both the pediatric literature and curriculum. The quotation from The Economist (Pediatrics 61:339, 1978) points out the magnitude of the problem. In addition, about 30,000 girls under 15 years of age conceive annually, and in 1975 over 12,000 of these were reported to have actually delivered.1
