Abstract

This paper reviews the literature pertaining to the risk and resource factors that impact on children's emotional functioning. While researchers and clinicians have addressed these issues, these factors have rarely been conceptualized collectively into a model for comprehensive identification and intervention. It is proposed that risk and resource be assessed by considering the following dimensions: (a) Child-based factors; (b) Nuclear family factors; and (c) Broader environmental factors. Research in each of these areas is reviewed and directions for future endeavors in the area of risk identification are discussed.
