Abstract

The present study aimed to analyse direct and indirect child sexual abuse. The sample were settled by 341 participants, 70 men and 271 women, ages comprised between 18 and 68 years old, 51 are direct victims and 17 indirect victims of child sexual abuse. For the data collection we used a Sociodemographic Questionnaire and two psychometric tools, ECAS_Beliefs Scale of Sexual Abuse (Machado, Gonçalves & Matos, 2000), Self-Reporting Questionnaire – SRQ-20 (Santos, Araújo, & Oliveira, 2009). The results showed that there are significant differences between the direct victims and the indirect victims only on the dimension “depressive thoughts”, as the direct victims had more depressed thoughts than indirect victims. Regarding to the ECAS, we found significant differences between the direct victims and the indirect victims in all factors. However, it was found that the indirect victims presented more tolerance/legitimation face to the sexual violence comparatively to the direct victims.
