Abstract

Medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MCADD) is a lifelong condition that babies are born with and it affects up to 1 in every 8000 births in the UK. It is screened for on the newborn blood spot test performed on day five of life. MCADD can be a serious life-threatening condition if not recognised and treated quickly, but with timely care sufferers can live healthy and active lives.
