Abstract
Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the most common cause of disability in childhood (Powell, 1994). In the UK, it is estimated that approximately 6% of children under the age of 14 years are admitted to hospital with a closed head injury each year (Appleton and Baldwin, 1998). However, despite its prevalence and its tumultuous impact on the lives of at least 20 000 families across the UK every year, children and young people with an ABI continue to struggle in their journey towards adulthood (Turan, 2009).
