Abstract
ABSTRACT: Of a random sample of 201 married postpartum women, 109 had chosen to attend childbirth education classes and 92 had not. Women who attended classes were younger, had fewer children, were married fewer years, and had had slightly more years of education than non‐participants. Most frequently cited reasons for not attending childbirth classes were having already attended in a previous pregnancy, having no interest, knowing as much as is needed, having scheduling problems, and not having doctor's recommendation to attend. Results point to the need to devise a childbirth education curriculum for parents who have older children.
