Abstract

Approximately two-thirds of the children in the United States have experienced at least one traumatic event by the age of 16 years. Based on Child Protective Services data, the national rate of abuse and neglect is approximately 8.9 per 1000 children. Trauma is associated with high risk of complex negative psychological and behavioral effects that require specialized evidence-based trauma treatments that can be difficult to access. This Clinical Perspectives presents initiatives and programs to increase capacity and access to evidence-based trauma-specific treatments at local, state, and national levels.
