Abstract

ABSTRACT Children affected by armed conflict are disproportionately impacted by humanitarian crises and rising global fragility. Changing conflict dynamics, emerging tactics by armed groups, and evolving radicalized violence are increasing children’s vulnerability, including the threat of being recruited and used in violence. And yet, there is a glaring omission of consideration for children in conflict early warning and no early warning indicators focused on children’s engagement in violence. Our study explores how children are considered in early warning systems and the need to focus on recruitment and use as a relevant conflict indicator, to inform more effective and child responsive prevention.
