Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of the maltreatment-delinquency linkage by mirroring the procedures employed in a recent American study. The subjects for this inquiry are 415 students attending college in Taiwan. The analysis shows a strong degree of consensus when students evaluate the seriousness of various kinds of maltreatment. While some forms of self-reported maltreatment correlate with some types of self-reported delinquency, the relationships are not very strong nor extensive. These findings parallel what was found in a similar study using American students. As a result, the conclusions question the broad assumption that maltreatment and delinquency are related.
