Abstract

This paper attempts to examine as to what extent the economic crisis could impact on the human capital development process, viz., education for the children and the youth of the Sub-Saharan African region on the basis of using data from 41 economies. For this, we specify a model to explain the net enrollment ratio in terms of the respective per capita GDP, public spending on education in the respective economies and per capita overseas development assistance for the recipient countries, and subsequently estimate by using a panel data framework. The results of this study provide some crucial insights on the primary and secondary education goals of the Sub-Saharan African economies.
