Abstract

The physician should be alert to subtle as well as aggravated indications of child abuse. Clinical signs and injury patterns are described to aid the physician in recognizing the battered child. The author suggests that a significant number of sudden infant deaths may be homicides and advises further investigation when other suspicious circumstances surround such deaths.
