Abstract

Purpose: Prehospital Providers (PHPs) are mandated reporters of child abuse, however their lack of training is a challenge to recognizing and reporting injuries concerning for abuse. PHPs need additional training regarding the identification of abusive and non-abusive skin injuries as they often encounter children who might be the victims of child physical abuse. Deliberate practice, a method where learners are given real-time feedback during skill performance, may be a useful method to train PHPs to distinguish between skin injuries concerning for abuse and those that are not.
