Abstract

The Chief Business Officer (CBO) has been a part of academic institutions for more than 800 years. Their prominence and stature have evolved from that of bookkeeper to ex officio status of the governing board. The literature related to the community college CBO is scant with few contributions in the past decade. Consequently, a descriptive and nationally oriented study was conducted to ascertain salient demographics, educational levels, experiential backgrounds, and supervisory responsibilities. Analyses of the data provided a profile of the contemporary community college CBO and suggest future oriented professional considerations.
