Abstract
The virgin and ploughed chernozems of the cis-Altai and West Siberian forest-steppe soil provinces are the “gold” reserves of Novosibirsk oblast; they form a solid basis of agricultural production of the most highly developed area in West Siberia. However the Novosibirsk chernozems are subject to an enhancing erosive destruction. Such detrimental phenomena have been increasingly pronounced in the areas where the most valuable chernozems, leached and podzolized, are predominant. Therefore measures on soil conservation and natural-economic management are gaining in importance.
